    Rehabilitation Track Breakout Sessions

    Session Description
    This three hour breakout course is designed for all providers, surgical and non-operative, who have an interest in the rehabilitation process for patients with spinal disorders.   This course includes didactic instruction from a distinguished faculty who will cover spine anatomy, imaging, neurodiagnostics, medications, psychology, evaluation, outcomes tracking and manual therapy.  This session has been designed to encourage audience participation with interactive discussions.

    Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

    • Describe the relevant spinal anatomy with respect to form and function, biomechanics, tissue injury and its clinical implications in the patient recovery process.
    • Assess the principles and utility of magnetic resonance imaging studies in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders.
    • Discuss the principles and utility of neurodiagnostics in the management of patients with spinal disorders.
    • Express the principles and utility of medications in the management of patients with spinal disorders.
    • State the influence and implications of patient psychology in the management of spinal disorders.
    • Demonstrate the essentials of a comprehensive spinal evaluation, including a history and physical examination, in the management of patients with spinal disorders.
    • Review the import of utilizing valid and reliable outcome metrics to objectively monitor the progress of patient recovery.
    • Gain insight into the principles and utility of manual therapy in the management of patients with spinal disorders.

This session will develop participants’ skills in using MRIs and myelograms as diagnostic tools.  Participants will also gain a better understanding of spinal trauma and what treatment trauma patients are given and why.

  • Discuss the intricacies of interpreting MRIs.
  • Explain how to use and read myelograms.
  • Gain insight into spinal trauma and the treatment of traumatic injuries.

    Session Description
    This three hour breakout course is designed for all providers, surgical and non-operative, who have an interest in the rehabilitation process for patients with spinal disorders.   The latest evidence and methods for identifying subgroups of patients will be presented.  Various forms of exercise that will most effectively reduce and eliminate acute-to-chronic spine generated symptomology, and return patients to their activities, will be presented, demonstrated and discussed in an open and dynamic forum.  Brief didactic sessions by spine rehab experts will precede informal workshops intended to provide more detail and an opportunity to experience, first hand, the various forms of medical exercise therapy.


    Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: 

    • Explain the principles, utility, and techniques of identifying symptom relieving movement patterns in the management of patients with spinal disorders.
    • Compare the progression of patient recovery utilizing direction preference with alternatives for those who do not have a specific symptom relieving movement pattern presentation.
    • Assess the principles and utility of core training in the management of patients with spinal disorders.
